Privacy Notice
RentBeagle is built to help renters, and that includes respecting your privacy. Today the site has no accounts, no sign-up forms, no advertising trackers and no analytics. The only thing we keep from visitors is the numbers you choose to enter in the renewal offer check, without your name or contact details. This notice explains the little information involved in using it.
Who we are
RentBeagle (“RentBeagle,” “we,” “us”) runs the website at rentbeagle.com, a free tool for comparing apartment prices in Texas cities: today Austin, Dallas–Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio. Questions about this notice or your information: privacy@rentbeagle.com.
What we collect
Information stored only on your device
When you save a place, pick a city, turn on a price alert, take the match quiz or change your filters, the site stores those choices in your own browser (using “local storage”) so they are still there next time. It also remembers the last few buildings you looked at, so you can pick up where you left off. This information stays on your device. We do not receive it, and we cannot see it.
You can delete it at any time by clearing your browser’s site data for rentbeagle.com.
Your location
- Your general area, to pick a city. When you first open the site, our host, Cloudflare, estimates your general area (roughly your city) from your IP address, as it does for every site it serves. Our code on Cloudflare’s servers uses that estimate once to choose the nearest city we cover, and sends your browser back only the city’s name. We do not receive, keep or log the estimate. You can change the city at any time, and your choice is then remembered on your device.
- Your exact location, only if you ask. If you tap Near me, your browser asks your permission first. Your location is used inside your browser, for that visit only, to sort places by distance and show you on the map. It is not sent to us or stored. You can refuse or turn off location access in your browser at any time.
Renewal offers you enter
When you use the renewal offer check, we send what you entered to our server to grade it, and we keep these numbers: the complex (or the name you typed), number of bedrooms, floor plan, lease length, the rent in your offer, your current rent if you gave it, the month your lease ends, the difference in monthly fees, the new-renter price we compared with, and our rating. Specials you enter are turned into a monthly amount in your browser first, and only that amount is sent. We keep the month your lease ends, not the day.
We do not ask for, and do not keep with these numbers, your name, email address, phone number, unit number or IP address. We use them only to improve our renewal estimates and to publish statistics that combine many renters’ offers, never one person’s. To prevent abuse, Cloudflare uses your IP address briefly to limit how many offers can be checked per minute; it is not stored with your answers. The numbers are kept in our database, hosted by Supabase.
Information our service providers receive
- Hosting. Our host is Cloudflare. Like every website, our hosting provider automatically receives basic technical information when your browser loads a page: your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. Our host uses this to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. We do not use it to identify you or build a profile of you.
- Google Maps. Our maps are provided by Google Maps. When a map loads, Google receives your IP address, browser information and how you use the map, such as zooming and moving it. Building photos and reviewers’ profile pictures from Google also load directly from Google. Google’s use of this information is covered by the Google Privacy Policy and the Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service.
- Google ratings and reviews. When you open a building page, our server asks Google for that building’s rating, reviews and photos. That request comes from our server, not your browser, and doesn’t include anything about you. We show what Google returns and don’t keep it.
- Fonts. The site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts. To deliver them, Google receives your IP address and browser information. Google describes how it handles this in its Privacy Policy.
What we do not collect
We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number or payment details. We do not use cookies, analytics tools, advertising networks or tracking pixels. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
Information about apartment buildings
Our listings are about buildings, not people: names, addresses, prices, fees, floor plans and availability published on each property’s own website or in public records. See Data sources & takedowns.
How we use information
We use the limited technical information described above only to run the site, keep it secure and fix problems. We use renewal offers as described in “Renewal offers you enter” above.
Sharing and selling
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising. We would disclose information only to the service providers named above so they can run the site, or if the law requires it.
Your choices and rights
You can use RentBeagle without giving us any personal information. Depending on where you live, including under the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act, you may have the right to ask whether we process your personal data, and to access, correct, delete or get a copy of it, and to opt out of its sale, targeted advertising or profiling. Because we hold almost no personal data, most requests will be simple. Email privacy@rentbeagle.com and we will respond within 45 days. If we decline a request, you can appeal by replying to our answer with “Appeal” in the subject line, and we will respond to the appeal within 60 days. If you are not satisfied with the result, you can contact the Texas Attorney General.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. We do not track you across websites, so there is nothing for these signals to switch off. If we ever add tracking, we will honor Global Privacy Control signals.
Security
The site is served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Because your saved places and quiz answers stay in your browser, they are not stored on our servers. Renewal offers are sent over HTTPS and stored in a database that only RentBeagle can access.
Changes to this notice
We will update this notice before we add anything that collects more information, such as accounts, email price alerts, analytics or advertising. Each version is numbered and dated at the top of this page. Version 1.1 added the city choice, the optional Near me feature and Google Maps. Version 1.2 added the renewal offer check and the numbers it keeps.
